Explanation: The presence of inert gases like argon, neon or nitrogen inside the bulb retards the evaporation of the filament and makes it possible to operate it at higher temperatures than in vacuum. Modern bulbs are usually filled with a mixture of argon and nitrogen. More rarely, some bulbs are filled with pure argon, krypton or xenon.
